Priming of concrete surfaces
Remove any poorly attached and flaking coatings and paints from concrete surfaces, for example by water sand blasting. Remove damaged concrete by chiselling, water sand blasting or milling, depending on the type and extent of the damage. Shape the cavities and clean any rusted reinforcement bars to grade St 2 or replace them with new ones. Apply Fescon Adhesive Plaster on the rebars and repair holes with Fescon Repairing Plaster. If necessary, overlay the repaired surfaces with Fescon Overlaying Plaster.
Roughen the new concrete surfaces and clean them of cement paste, for example by water sand washing or steel brushing. The surface treatments can also be carried out during the element manufacturing. New concrete surfaces can be painted after a minimum of one heating season.
Priming of plaster surfaces
Remove old poorly attached and flaking coatings and paints from plastering surfaces. Remove plaster layers that have become separated from their base until you reach an undamaged plaster layer. Apply repair plaster in three or two layers or as surface plastering, depending on the depth of the damage. Shape the structure of the surface plastering to match the original plaster surface. Take the composition of the old plasters into consideration while working. Allow places with deep plaster and new plaster surfaces to dry for a sufficiently long time before painting. Use a guideline of two days per plastered mm, depending on the conditions.
When pre-treating and painting bases containing asbestos, you must take the protective measures prescribed in the official regulations.
Test painting
Before beginning work, carry out a test painting to ensure the correct tint.
Base coating and priming
For base coating, you can thin the paint using a maximum of 5% water. N.B. The paint mixture must be used within 24 hours of mixing. On very absorbent bases, it may be necessary to use Fescon Silicone Resin Paint as primer.
Top coating
Use unthinned Fescon Silicone Resin Paint for the top coat. The base must be dry and clean. During painting and drying, the air temperature must be at least +5°C and the relative humidity no more than 80%. Apply the paint with a brush, roller or airless spray. Nozzle size 0.021-0.027". Paint continuous surfaces at same time. You should reserve enough paint to be able to paint continuous surfaces with paint from the same manufacturing batch. You should hide the working seams in corners, expansion joints or for instance behind drainpipes. If you must use paint from different manufacturing batches, you can use a 1:1 mixture of the old and new paint batches around the border. An extra layer of paint may be necessary with strong and bright tints. Clean tools with water.
Service instructions
A dirty surface can be cleaned with a pressure washer. Remove any damaged spots and repair the holes. Repaint with Fescon Silicone Resin Paint. One treatment is sufficient for a cleaned, undamaged surface. Base coating is also needed for damaged areas from where the paint has been removed or holes have been patched.
