Base
The base must be undamaged, clean, and damp enough to be darker in colour. Snow and ice must be melted away from the base. If necessary, also remove the weak-strength cement paste layer. Best adhesion can be achieved to a rough base. The mould must be tight, because Fescon Grouting Concrete Winter is pliable and flows easily while it is workable. When using galvanised steels, you must make absolutely sure that the coating has become passive.
Mixing
Refer to the bag for how much water the concrete requires. Add the dry material to the water and mix with a concrete mixer for around three to five minutes. With a power mixer, around two to three minutes of mixing is sufficient. Let the mass stand for a while and mix it again for a short while. Find the correct consistency at this stage by gradually adding the rest of the water. We do not recommend adding all of the water right at the start. If you are unable to use the concrete immediately after mixing, we recommend mixing it again before casting. The finished concrete remains workable for around half an hour. If several bags are mixed at the same time, the heat from the hydration reaction can shorten the workability time. We recommend mixing one or two bags at a time.
Work instructions
Casting should be done as soon as possible after mixing. If necessary, vibrate the casting lightly or ram it. The recommended casting layer thickness is 15-100 mm. Follow the instructions of the designers and the official regulations on winter concreting when doing casting work.
After treatment
The fresh casting must be protected from snow and rain. You must care for the casting with, for example, a plastic cover or curing compounds. The aftercare should continue for around 7 days. Strength development continues without additional heating in temperatures above -15°C.
Other points to note
Winter products will be available in the winter season, from 15 September to 1 March. At other times, the products must be ordered separately.
