Base requirements and coating conditions
The concrete must have a minimum strength class of C25/30 and wear resistance class 3. The relative humidity of the concrete must not exceed 95%, and the surface temperature must be at least +3°C above the dew point. During application and curing, the relative humidity of the air must be below 90%.
New concrete floor
Cement laitance and any uncured cement must be removed by surface grinding, shot blasting, or milling. All loose and adhesion-reducing material must be removed, and cement dust must be carefully vacuumed off.
Old concrete floor
Cement laitance and deteriorated concrete must be removed by grinding, shot blasting, or milling. All loose and adhesion-reducing material must be removed, and the surface must be thoroughly vacuumed. Dirty floors should be washed and rinsed with a synthetic detergent before any further surface preparation. Any existing old paint film must be completely removed from the substrate.
Priming
To ensure watertightness, a chamfer 2–3 cm deep and approximately 5 cm wide is cut around floor drains. This is filled before coating with a filler mortar made of acrylic binder and filler sand. The same procedure applies to other similar connection details. The acrylic filler mortar is also used for any necessary slope corrections and other required fillings.
Patching
On dry substrates (concrete RH < 95%), priming is done with Nanten Acrylic Primer 101. On damp substrates (concrete RH < 98%), priming is done with Nanten Acrylic Primer 107, suitable for damp concrete.
Mixing
Estimate the required amount of Matacryl membrane based on the size of the area to be treated and the working time of the mixture. Take into account the effect of temperature on the amount of hardener. Pre-mix the resin component in its own container. Add the required amount of catalyst powder and mix with a low-speed mixer for approx. 2 minutes. Avoid entraining air into the mixture.
Mixing ratio
Nanten Acrylic Hardener (50% dibenzoyl peroxide) is used as the hardener/catalyst.
1 dl of hardener = 64 g
The amount of hardener depends on the temperature
+30°C 1 wt-%
+20°C 2 wt-%
+10°C 4 wt-%
+3°C 5 wt-%
Coverage
Matacryl resin approx. 1.9 kg/m² (required 1.5 mm film thickness for conditions such as commercial kitchens)
Application instructions
The uniformly mixed material is poured onto the substrate in a bead and spread with a notched trowel to the desired layer thickness. The surface is immediately finished with a steel trowel. Once cured, the surface is sealed with Nanten Acrylic Sealer 319 or 304.
In the Nanten System TR, a new primer layer of elastic Nanten Sealer 319 is rolled onto the Matacryl membrane. Adhesion sand is then broadcast onto the primer as work progresses to facilitate the application of the System TR topping (Nanten 20 N Acrylic). Adequate ventilation must be provided in the working area. Poor ventilation will slow down the drying of the product.
